Advanced Audio and performance
Buffer
Settings > Advanced Audio shows requested and actual buffer sizes. Smaller buffers can respond sooner but allow less processing time. Larger buffers add delay but can prevent dropouts. Automatic grows the buffer when underruns occur. Restore automatic buffer returns to that policy. Fixed sizes are rounded to device bursts and limited by device capacity.
Caching
Cache Listen previews and Cache backing playback reduce repeated processing of prepared material. Leave them on for ordinary use. Turning them off is a diagnostic comparison of live processing load; heavy arrangements can glitch. Changing backing caching stops playback. Clear preview cache removes regenerable preview audio, not your musical notes.
Read the diagnostics
Actual buffer duration is only part of touch-to-sound latency. Callback load approaching or exceeding 100% can miss an audio deadline. Underruns, missed deadlines, late events, and dropped events describe different failures; their measurement windows may differ. Copy diagnostic report after reproducing an issue, before closing the app.
Output route
Wired or USB headphones avoid the additional delay common to Bluetooth. If another app takes audio focus or the output route changes, RiffJam can pause audio. Return to the app and choose Resume audio. Test the same arrangement and output route when comparing settings.
