Record, overdub, and undo takes
Start a take
Open an instrument and choose Record for an empty part or Overdub for a part with notes. Wait for the one-bar count-in, then play. Overdub layers a new performance over the existing part. Finish take ends capture and keeps listening. Stop ends playback. Cancelling during count-in prevents that take from starting.
Undo and Clear part
Undo last take removes the current take or the last completed recording pass, depending on recording state. Clear part removes all notes in the active part; use Undo when offered to recover an accidental clear. Recording passes in the part editor let you inspect and manage takes separately.
Timing after a take
The timing prompt offers Preserve timing or Snap starts. Preserve timing retains your recorded note starts. Snap starts moves starts to the selected grid while leaving note lengths unchanged. Tab's Recording timing tools let you revisit timing choices. A grid setting does not mean every expressive gesture should be quantized.
Help and interruptions
Finish a take or cancel count-in before opening the manual. Effect-control recording must also be finished first. Opening help during ordinary playback does not stop the transport. Switching apps or changing the audio route can pause audio; return and use Resume audio when ready.
